As I wrote previously, for an IT release coach, like I am, my opportunity in Yonyou is mitigating my biggest enemy: release and resiliency risks. But I am only the beneficiary of a work that starts with Strategy Consultants and the Company Board. So let's see why a Chinese enterprise software, like Yonyou, ads value to the work of strategy consultants? How can your knowledge about Yonyou's move to new markets outside of Asia differentiate you from other consultants?
If Chinese EV cars are likely to be the future of electromobility in most parts of the world, then Chinese enterprise software applications could be the future of enterprise software in most parts of the world too. Especially in cases of SOC (Sovereign Operational Continuity*) crises.
*when a geopolitical event such as war, sanctions, trade embargoes or cyber warfare abruptly cuts off access to software vendors, an enterprise faces a Sovereign Operational Continuity crisis.
(picture a situation with ERPs and AIs similar to the few months of X.com ban in Brazil)
Is it a certainty? - Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.
But for a strategy consultant the question is not the verity, but the probability, so the right question is:
Is the above hypothesis about the future usefulness of Chinese enterprise software probable in many parts of the world? - Oh, yes it is!
We all read the famous LinkedIn article by McKinsey & Company's former Chairman, Sven Smit: Why Strategy Is Like Poker, Not Like Golf
Where he states: "...Strategy plays out in a world of probabilities, not certainties. That’s why you need to know your odds..."
Or as Bain&Company wrote in From Plans to Bets: Strategy in the Age of Prediction: "...In the new world of prediction-based strategy, understanding your exposures and being prepared to adapt as signals change becomes a source of competitive advantage..."
and as BCG phrased it: "...Where and how can we diversify our business to capitalize on opportunities or mitigate threats, allowing us to build resilience and ultimately improve shareholder returns?..."
Should your clients be aware of every competitive advantage available to them?
Should your clients know their odds about having to switch to alternative (Chinese) enterprise applications in the case of certain unexpected, disruptive events like an SOC?
Should the Board be aware that their IT resiliency is a weak bet if there are no considerations of geopolitical software vendor business continuity scenarios?
Should the CEO of your client be given the opportunity to decide if he wants to discuss Chinese enterprise software options with the shareholders?
Isn't it the strategy consultant?
This is why I believe that Yonyou is an opportunity for all strategy consultants who care to learn more about China's #1 enterprise software (and its arrival to their local markets). And before any company board can start discussing the above topic of IT resiliency, software vendor diversification and/or Sovereign Operational Continuity they need their strategy consultants. It is a strategy consulting mini-project or team-work to gather all related information, to form a proper agenda content in a structure that aligns the company-culture and policy and to prepare decision making materials.
In our days of significant geopolitical changes all around I believe, no strategy consulting firm can afford the risk of neglecting their client's IT resiliency issues and skip this topic which is also a consulting business opportunity.
